I read you blog in order to expand my Overtone Window of what normal, and because I want to give more money to charity and use that as encouragement. and it's the second time when i read your experience and think it's fascinating - because my experience is so different.
for me, it's the same internal movement that allowed me to buy nice things just because I want to, that allowed me to donate. and to do that I need to overcome the same internal resistance that say that I should not waste money.
so for me, asceticism come with not donating, and donating and buying the fancy bread come together. (did you already guessed that my parents oppose charity, never give to charity, and see giving to charity as mildly blameworthy? like, they will think worse of me if I will tell them about my donations to GiveWell)

That's fascinating. Very different from my experience but makes a lot of sense. Thank you for sharing!
